Do you ever walk into a room and think, something just feels off, but you can’t quite put your finger on it? That was me last month.
I’d styled our living room for Fall (candles, cozy blankets, all the textures!) but somehow it still felt flat. I kept adding little things, thinking maybe I needed more decor.
Turns out, I didn’t need more stuff at all. I just needed better light.
Everything in the room was depending on one overhead fixture, which made the space look cold and shadowy. Once I added two floor lamps and a table lamp on a side table, the difference was instant. The room suddenly felt layered, warm, and inviting... exactly the cozy vibe for Fall I’d been wanting!
If your home ever feels “off,” try this: count your light sources. You want at least three lights at different heights like a floor lamp, a table lamp, and a softer accent or candlelight. It’s such a simple shift, but it makes everything glow instead of glare.
I share more of my favourite budget-friendly cozy upgrades - from lighting to textiles to color - in my blog post:
These faux taper candles are actually SO realistic! I think what gives them that real look is the fact that they have a wax coating and dripping details. I'm using them on my mantel this Fall, but they'd also be lovely as a table centerpiece.
