Is your rug too small? (probably, yes)

Quick question: when's the last time you looked at your living room rug and wondered if it's actually the right size?

If it's been a while (or never), you're not alone. Rug sizing is hands-down one of the most common decorating mistakes I see, and it's an easy one to fix once you know the tricks.

I just refreshed one of my most-loved posts on the blog - my full Living Room Rug Size Guide - and I wanted to make sure you saw it, because getting this one thing right can completely transform how "put together" your space feels.

Here's a taste of what's inside:

๐Ÿงต The measuring trick I use every time: grab painter's tape (or a floor-planning app) before you buy, so you're never guessing.

๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ The "focal point vs. complement" decision: do you want your rug to be the star of the room, or a supporting player? This changes everything about what size to buy.

๐Ÿ“ The 24-inch rule: my simple rule of thumb for how much bare floor should show around your rug.

๐Ÿช‘ The furniture leg test: how to know if your current rug is actually too small (hint: check those front legs).

๐Ÿ“Š My Room Size vs. Rug Size chart: just look up your room dimensions and I'll tell you almost exactly what rug size to shop for.

Budget tip: if a bigger rug is out of reach right now, I share my favorite trick for faking the look with layering... you'll find it in the post too.

I also linked my favorite affordable, washable rugs (hello, life with kids and pets) that I use in my own home and vacation rentals. Perfect if you're ready to shop!

This Weekโ€™s Top Find

Ever since I discovered washable area rugs, I've been hooked. I literally have them EVERYWHERE! They're so easy to spot clean, or throw in the washing machine (if you have a larger front-loader like I do).

My pick this week:

โ€‹Flat Weave Washable Area Rug in Blue Tones (commissions earned)

This is the rug we've had for over a year in our vacation rental, and it's SEEN SOME THINGS! It still looks great, and I love the pattern.

Happy decorating!
