Hi friend,
If there’s one decorating mistake I see in homes again and again, it’s this:
Curtains that are hung just a little bit… off.
Too short. Too narrow. Hung right at the top of the window frame.
And the funny thing is that none of these are expensive mistakes! Most of the time, fixing them costs nothing at all. It’s just a matter of knowing a few simple tricks designers use to make windows look bigger, ceilings look taller, and rooms feel more polished.
Curtains hung high & wide vs low & narrow
For example, one of the easiest upgrades you can make is hanging your curtain rod higher than you think you should. Instead of placing it right above the window frame, try installing it closer to the ceiling. Suddenly the entire room feels taller and more custom.
Another small tweak that makes a huge difference is curtain width. If panels are too narrow, they look skimpy and unfinished. But when curtains are about two to two-and-a-half times the width of the window, they create that soft, full look you see in magazines.
And one more tip I always share: avoid curtains that end awkwardly a few inches the floor. Panels that just kiss the floor instantly look more tailored and intentional.
I recently put together a full guide showing the most common curtain mistakes I see, and how to fix them easily.
If your windows have ever felt like they’re missing something, I think you’ll find a few simple ideas in this post that can make a surprisingly big difference!
This Week’s Top Find
One of my favorite cozy home finds lately are these beautiful linen-blend patterned curtains that are surprisingly affordable.
I've used these in my dining room, and recently hung them in my living room for Spring. They look SO high end for a fraction of the cost!
