One of my favourite things about DIY decorating is discovering that a beautiful home really doesn’t require an enormous budget.
But there’s something else I’ve learned over the years: even the prettiest DIY or decor find can feel “off” if it doesn’t work with the rest of the room.
When Sean and I moved into our first home (a tiny garage that had been converted into a two-bedroom bungalow!) I was SO excited to decorate it.
I chose colours, patterns and accessories that I liked individually, but I didn’t have a plan for making everything work together.
The result wasn’t terrible, but the rooms never felt quite as cohesive or finished as I wanted them to.
Have you ever felt that way?
You’ve bought the pillows, hung the art, completed the DIYs and rearranged the furniture…but something still doesn’t feel right.
What I eventually learned was that a beautiful room isn’t created by collecting enough cute things. It comes from understanding how colour, scale, placement, texture and lighting work together.
Once I began using a clear decorating plan, I made fewer expensive mistakes, my rooms felt more cohesive, and decorating became so much more enjoyable.
Over the years, I’ve turned everything I’ve learned into simple decorating formulas that work in real homes, with real families and real-life budgets.
And on Monday, I’m sharing something special for anyone who wants to use those same formulas in their own home... just in time for a cozy Fall reset!
Until then, enjoy today’s Dollar Tree DIYs!
